Frequently Asked

What exactly is a briefing?Open

A short Kindle book by James Allen, written to be read in roughly the time of a commute — around twenty to forty minutes. Each one delivers a single idea, complete in itself; it isn't a summary of a longer book.

Why so short?Open

Because the commute is where reading genuinely happens. We edit carefully so the whole idea fits the commute — and so you finish what you begin.

Are these abridgements?Open

No. Each book is a complete essay, lightly edited for the modern reader. Nothing is cut simply to shorten it; the length is a consequence of the form, not an afterthought.

How do I read them?Open

On any Kindle device, or the free Kindle app for phone, tablet or computer. Once you buy a briefing, it appears in your Kindle library straight away.

What do they cost?Open

£4.99 each—less than the price of a fancy coffee. We keep the price modest: a good idea shouldn't require a decision.

Who is James Allen?Open

A British writer (born 1980s) whose work draws on psychology, history, philosophy and behavioural science. The Commuter's Briefing is his first series — twelve short books, each built around a single idea.

Will there be other authors?Open

We take one author at a time. James Allen is the first; later series will follow the same principle — one idea, one commute.

Can I gift a briefing?Open

Not yet. A gifting option is on the way; join the dispatch and we'll let you know when it opens.

Do you take advertising?Open

No. The imprint is funded by its readers. There are no sponsored pages and no interrupting copy anywhere on the site.

How do I contact the editor?Open
